Day 1: Cape Town Arrival

Hello, Sanibonani, Molo, Hallo, Thobela, Dumela, Lumela, Abusheni, Sanibona, Avuwani, Salibonani. Welcome to Sunny South Africa!
Zebra Adventures will be waiting for you in the arrival hall at Cape Town International Airport and transfer you to your hotel, Hotel Sky, where you will spend 4 nights. Enjoy some leisure time next to the pool as the rest of your tour arrives.

Day 3: Cultural Experience

Today promises to be an exciting day as we journey to Table Mountain, one of the 7 new wonders of nature. We will be taking an early cable car journey Once we reach the top, you can send a postcard from the gift shop or grab a snack in the cafe before we descend by cable car. Immerse yourself in the rich culture of South Africa and her Mother City. Take a drive-by tour of historic buildings and landmarks such as the Grand Parade, the Castle of Good Hope, and St George’s Cathedral. As you stroll through the Company Gardens, which date back to 1652, you’ll be surrounded by the sights, smells, and culture of the city. Get an introduction to where and how our city started, and learn about the Cape Malay community, the heartbeat of The Cape. You’ll hear stories from the past and discover how we are building a rainbow nation with a promising future. Walk through the colourful Bo-Kaap via cobbled streets, with stories of food and culture. We’ll stop to shop at Greenmarket Square, where you can explore a variety of crafts, jewellery, clothing, and curios. Afterwards, we’ll head back to the hotel, giving you the chance to relax before we make our way to the V&A Waterfront for a leisurely dinner of your choosing.

Day 5: Road Trip: Route 62 to Oudtshoorn

Say goodbye to The Mother City as we start our road trip and head to Oudtshoorn. Journey through the scenic Breede River Valley and follow the world’s longest wine route, filled with hidden gems. Our chosen route is none other than Route 62, which has earned the title of the world’s best road trip destination according to CNN Travel. It shares striking resemblances with the famous Route 66 in the USA. Pause for a delightful lunch break at one of Route 62’s renowned diners located in Barrydale, a charming vintage village nestled at the base of the Klein (little) Karoo and Overberg regions. While journeying along Route 62 through the mountains, you’ll notice the changing landscape and vegetation as we approach the Klein Karoo, a semi-desert region. Our route will take us along the Swartberg mountain pass to reach Oudtshoorn. Oudtshoorn is known as the ostrich capital of the world Back in the late 1800s, ostrich feathers were the height of fashion (literally) and people from all over the world sought them out for fashion and costumes. Royalty, maharajahs, emperors, and fashionistas alike, were after these fabulous feathers. A trip to Oudtshoorn is not complete without visiting an ostrich farm. These giant flightless birds are fascinating creatures, and you’ll have the chance to test the strength of an egg and learn about its history. Plus, you might even get a memorable neck massage from one of the ostriches! We’ll be staying at Surval Boutique Olive Estate for one night, which is situated outside of Oudtshoorn, a beautiful olive farm surrounded by vineyards, fruit orchards, and mountain ranges. The clarity of the sky above Oudtshoorn is one of the best places in the world for stargazing. A night sky like you have never seen before!

Day 7: Entering The Garden Route & Knysna

We leave the Karoo and are met by an abundance of greenery as we enter the Garden Route. Nestled in a picturesque setting, Knysna is a delightful town known for its verdant indigenous forests, serene lakes, and captivating beaches. The striking geological formation called the Knysna Heads, consisting of vibrant cliffs, stands majestically at the mouth of the lagoon, accentuating the town’s natural allure. Within Knysna, you’ll be greeted with the warm embrace of crafts shops, flea markets, and inviting cafés, all exuding the charm and hospitality of a close-knit community. Finally, the day everyone has been waiting for. After breakfast, we’ll take a short 25-minute drive to Knysna Elephant Park where you will stay for the next two nights. Embrace the presence of these amazing animals. Here, you’ll have the chance to engage with a remarkable herd of five African elephants, the country’s largest domesticated matriarchal group. Day 11: Travel to the Pilanesberg Safari

An early departure. After a two-hour flight to OR Tambo Johannesburg, your private transfer will take you to Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge in The Pilanesberg. Situated in the Pilanesberg National Park on the slopes of a 2-billion-year-old volcano, Kwa Maritane, meaning “Place of the Rock”, offers unparalleled comfort in a malaria-free area. An experienced game ranger will lead you on a late afternoon game drive deep into the Pilanesberg National Park, where you can spot the super seven or known as Africa’s “big five” the lion, Africa’s “big five” – the lion, leopard, elephant, black rhino, and Cape buffalo – along with the cheetah and wild dogs. The park is home to over 7,000 animals, including zebra, wildebeest, and impala, as well as 360 bird species. Day 13: Time to say “Hamba Kahle”

See the African sunrise one last time on your early morning game drive before breakfast. Suitcases packed and ready to make our way to O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, where we will say our final goodbyes until we meet again. Our scheduled arrival time at O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg will be between 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm.

Day 2: Cape Peninsula, Penguins & Sunset Dinner

After breakfast at 8:30, our group orientation meeting marks the official start of your tour.
It’s time to grab your sandals and head out to explore the beautiful coastal area of Cape Town. We’ll drive along the Atlantic coast, following the world-famous Chapman’s Peak with its 114 twists and turns, rock formations, and scenic roadways. Our first stop is Kalk Bay. Kalk Bay has been recognised by Forbes Magazine as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world, and you’ll soon see why. This charming spot boasts art nouveau chic and tons of personality, offering a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. After you’ve explored this little gem, it’s time to head over to Simonstown to see the African penguin in its natural habitat. These little fellows are truly amazing, and you’ll fall in love with them in no time. Lunch at Boulders Beach and enjoy a swim with the penguins in the warmer waters of False Bay – it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you don’t want to miss. Enjoy the beach and shop at the African stalls. Heading back to Cape Town, Back at the hotel, it’s time to freshen up before heading out for dinner. After a rejuvenating start to our day, we head back for breakfast at our hotel. With the mountains as your backdrop, explore the gardens and the ‘Boomslang’, a treetop canopy walkway that winds and dips its way through and over the trees. We make our way to the Safari Lodge, where you’ll spend one night at Garden Route Game Lodge Enjoy your first sunset game drive and meet the animals ‒ eland, elephants, gemsbok, rhinos, ostrich, lions, Cape buffalos and cheetah along with giraffes, zebras, black wildebeest, and numerous other antelope species and more. Wake up to the fragrance of the sea and the enchanting songs of seagulls.
Today is a day to unwind and embrace all that Knysna has to offer. Numerous options await your exploration. Discover the shops on Thesen Island, rent a bicycle or paddle boat, or bask in the sun at the beach. Hop on the ferry and venture to Featherbed Nature Reserve, where your ticket includes a 4×4 trail drive to the start of a scenic walk through the reserve. Knysna is home to Africa’s only paddle-driven vessel, a paddle cruiser, offering a one-of-a-kind experience on the Knysna Lagoon. Today, you have the choice of going on an early game drive at around 5:30 am, or the late afternoon game drive at 4:00 pm, or why not both! To reach The Hide (waterhole), follow the underground tunnel quietly so as not to scare away the animals. You can also keep an eye on the live webcam channel in your room to observe when animals gather at the waterhole. Relax and enjoy the view from the restaurant, take a refreshing swim in one of the pools, or inquire at the reception about activities such as tennis and mini golf. Visit the wildlife canter to see indigenous snakes, and feel free to ask the game wardens for more information about them. You can also arrange for Game Walks within the Park, accompanied by an armed Field Guide. The lounge/coffee bar is open all day and is an ideal spot for pre-dinner cocktails while watching the sunset over the waterhole.

The itinerary mentioned above serves as a preliminary plan. Your final itinerary will be sent to you three months before your tour. You will receive a basic medical form to complete roughly four months before your arrival in SA. If you have received any medical treatment or sustained any injuries within six months before you arrive in South Africa, we require a ‘fit to fly’ letter from your GP. This is to help you while in South Africa, as we do not want you or any of your group members to miss out on any of our exciting activities and to keep up with a jam-packed itinerary. We encourage a moderate fitness level, please note the itinerary includes 2 leisurely hikes. We have a daily itinerary with pre-booked excursions, and we encourage everyone to participate on a daily basis.

Terms

  • The minimum number for the WPJ ECO Tour is 10 people, and the maximum number is 12 people.
  • Before or on 25 November ’24 a non-refundable deposit of £1,200 (Pound Sterling) per person must be paid.
  • Should the WPJ ECO Tour be cancelled due to low numbers, or any unforeseen circumstances, the deposit minus an admin fee (£1,200 – £50 = £1,150) will be refunded by ZEBRA ADVENTURES.
  • Full payment of £5,120 (Pound Sterling) is due before or on 25 May 2025.
  • For any cancellations after 25 May 2025, there will be NO REFUND.
  • Should anyone who paid in full cancel before 25 May 2025, the non-refundable deposit will be taken as a penalty.
  • If ZEBRA ADVENTURES cancels the tour, all fees paid will be refunded.
  • In the event of Force Majeure, all fees paid before or on 25 July 2025 will be refunded by ZEBRA ADVENTURES and an admin fee of £160 will be applied. In the event of a Force Majeure cancellation occurring after 25 July 2025, a refund will be processed only if the suppliers issue a refund, minus an admin fee of £160.
  • ZEBRA ADVENTURES is not involved in the bookings of flights and will not be accountable for any related arrangements, cancellation of flights due to error, tour cancellation or any other event.
  • Travel insurance for the WPJ ECO Tour is mandatory.
