Cape Town

Perched on the southern tip of the African continent, Cape Town is a superlatively beautiful city with stunning scenery at almost every turn. It is hard to miss the backdrop of the mighty Table Mountain, Cape Town’s crowning glory, and the bright glittering ocean that arcs around the coastline. If the time spent marvelling at nature proves too much, the city has a plethora of historic sites waiting to be explored. At the V&A Waterfront, rundown Victorian warehouses have been lovingly converted to a bustling cultural and commercial hub. Cape Town is South Africa’s most accessible gateway, with gorgeous beaches, vibrant, multicultural neighbourhoods, famous vineyards and fine dining to rival any European capital.

Cape Town’s dramatic coastline to the south of Camps Bay is ruggedly beautiful and as part of the Table Mountain National Park, it’s largely undeveloped. Follow the famous Chapmans’ Peak past the brooding Twelve Apostles, the spine of mountains that run down to Cape Point, while the ocean pounds on the rocks below. It is not too far from here at Cape Agulhas, the most southern tip of the Africa continent, where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet.

If the landscape sounds diverse, wait until you meet the people of South Africa. With 11 official languages and more than a dozen tribes, living alongside communities from Africa, Europe and the Indian subcontinent – little wonder we are known as the Rainbow Nation. This diversity is tangible everywhere, from the architecture and language to the nation’s spectacular cuisine and colours.

Winelands

Just an hour’s drive inland from Cape Town, at the heart of the Cape Winelands you will find South Africa’s so-called Golden Triangle; Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl. In the shadow of a continuous belt of Cape fold mountains, lies a series of generous valleys known as the Cape Winelands – a collection of historic towns, little hamlets and Cape Dutch farmsteads that provide well-regarded South African wines to the world. A great deal of the allure of the winelands is owed to the spectacular natural setting. These mountains create an incredible scenic backdrop, but they are also one of the reasons wines do so well here. Their geological compositions provide unique soil conditions that directly affect the character of wine.

The Franschhoek Wine Route is characterized by an inherent French flair. The town itself is rich with Huguenot history. Franschhoek (or “French Corner”) is named for the French Huguenots who settled here in the 18th century. Blessed with perhaps the most perfect setting of any winelands town, it is also South Africa’s unofficial food and wine gastronomic capital, offering a world-class gourmet experience. The ideal place to settle in for an alfresco lunch.

Paarl (Afrikaans for “pearl”) is named for the polished granite domed mountain that rises behind it. Founded in 1720, Paarl feels rather unattractive by Boland standards, but its wine route includes some of the finest vineyards and several first-class restaurants. The Paarl Wine Route is also called the ‘Red Route’ for its legendary red wines. Cabernet Sauvignon, port and Shiraz wines have established Paarl’s place on the global wine map and the region has repeatedly received international awards for these wines. Nothing complements a good glass of wine quite like a good cheese. This delectable culinary tradition has extended to the Boland as well, and some of South Africa’s finest cheeses are produced in this region. It is here where you’ll find wine farms like Fairview, popular for its cheese and wine pairing and Spice Route known for its much-loved chocolate, gin, beer, wine, and ice cream tastings – and good food.

The Stellenbosch Wine Route is South Africa’s oldest wine route. This architectural jewel is the second-oldest town in South Africa, and lies at the heart of the winelands. Stellenbosch was founded in 1679 by the Dutch Governor Simon van der Stel. Some of South Africa’s finest wines are cultivated in this scenic region. South Africa’s high-quality olive oils have started making waves in the international circuit, often beating out heavyweights like Italy, Spain and Greece. The Boland’s Mediterranean-like climate provides ideal conditions for groves to flourish.

Klein Karoo & Oudtshoorn

The famous Cape Route 62 is a tourist route connecting the Western and Eastern Cape. Not only is it the world’s longest wine route a whopping 850km, Route 62 has also been named the world’s best road trip destination by CNN Travel, offering a scenic alternative to the N2 highway. The easily accessible towns along Route 62 all offer ample opportunity for discovery. From visits to wineries and game reserves, tribal art, cultural tours, museums and for the more adventurous, hiking trails and mountain climbing, 4×4 routes, canoeing, horse riding, fishing and caving. Route 62 is an exciting experience, even for the well-travelled. Stop for lunch at one of the diners in the town of Barrydale, nestled at the foot of the majestic Langeberg Mountain range. This vintage town has quirkiness written all over it, an oasis with charm. It is here where you can find Diesel & Crème’s famous mouthwatering gourmet milkshakes. After a long day’s travel unwind in one of the region’s invigorating hot springs, revel in luxury or relax in rustic tranquillity, a journey to the unexpected. As you follow Route 62, the natural beauty of the region’s mountains, fauna, rivers, valleys and plains is evident. The diverse scenery and vegetation change as you make your way into the Karoo, a semi-desert area.

The iconic town of Oudtshoorn lies in the Klein Karoo (Little Karoo) bordering the picturesque Garden Route region halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha).

Primarily known as the ostrich capital of the world, Oudtshoorn has quickly gained the reputation of being a cultural, heritage and adventure sport hotspot. Encompassed by unique landscapes, the town is centred between the awe-inspiring Swartberg and Outeniqua mountain ranges. The history and development of Oudtshoorn are inextricably connected with the growth of the ostrich feather industry from as early as 1860. Ostriches still form a vital part of the trade today, from tourism to agriculture. Come and meet the large flightless birds, ride an ostrich, buy ostrich curios and even sample the famous ostrich steak. There is nothing like a Karoo night sky. The clarity of the sky above Oudtshoorn is practically unparalleled, the Milky Way arcs over you like a giant swathe of smoke. Situated not far from Oudtshoorn is the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), the largest single optical telescope in the southern hemisphere and among the largest in the world. With an average rainfall of less than 150mm a year, Oudtshoorn is the ideal location for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and exploring the wonders of nature in one of the nearby nature reserves. This town of wonders is sure to impress with its plethora of offerings and classic country lifestyle. Enjoy some of the local Karoo cuisines with a crisp chardonnay, craft beer or gin, admire the fauna and flora, or take a plunge in the world’s first crocodile cage dive.

A visit to Oudtshoorn is not complete without seeing the world-famous Cango Caves, Africa’s largest heritage show cave system and a spectacular underground wonder of the Klein Karoo. Some of the biggest stalagmite formations in the world are set in Precambrian limestone (a time about 4500 million years ago). The spectacular dripstone caverns with their vast halls and towering formations are one of the world’s great natural wonders, sculptured by nature through the ages.

Cape Aloes (Aloe ferox) are in full bloom in the Western Cape and Karoo region. Apart from its skin-soothing and healing properties, it is also an immune system stimulant. European explorers, traders and settlers ventured around the tip of Africa and into Southern Africa where they encountered the Khoisan – the world’s most ancient people. The Khoisan had been using Aloe ferox as medicine for thousands of years. We know this because Aloe ferox is one of the few plants depicted in Bushmen cave paintings in South Africa, showing humans depicted alongside Aloe Ferox, which indicates they made use of it. The first evidence of Aloe ferox being used commercially was in 1761. The story goes that a slave working for a farmer named Johannes Petrus de Wit showed him the age-old art of tapping aloes to derive the medicinal bitters or ‘lump’ from the plant – which is a most effective laxative. This was then supplied to the Dutch East India Company and exported to Europe. The Khoisan’s medicinal plant knowledge was part of their oral tradition. A demonstration of aloe tapping, using the same traditional method the Bushman used, can be seen when visiting the Allcare Aloe Centre. The 400 species of aloe that exist in the world are indigenous only to Africa and Madagascar, with a few species in Yemen. Aloe is the world’s greatest plant.

Garden Route & Knysna

The Garden Route is the most visited stretch of coastline in South Africa. Travelling along the Garden Route is a breathtaking journey where dolphins joyfully frolic in the crashing waves, waterfalls cascade in graceful descent, lagoons shimmer with an inviting allure, forests beckon with their lush greenery, and beaches and mountains unfold their majestic beauty at every bend of the road. Cape Town – Romney Park Luxury Apartments

Your stay will include daily breakfast and apartment cleaning. Both the one and two bedroom apartments are sea-facing and come equipped with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a Nespresso coffee machine, and a shared open-plan lounge with a dining area and a compact kitchen. The 1-bedroom apartments feature one bedroom and one private bathroom. The 2-bedroom apartments include two bedrooms and two bathrooms. We are thrilled to announce our return to the Garden Route Game Lodge in 2027! Each Elegant Lodge Room features a private viewing patio and an en-suite bathroom. Safari

Located 4 ½ hours’ drive from Cape Town and just a short 30-minute drive from George Airport, Botlierskop Private Game Reserve is nestled at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains on stunning hills of fynbos and deep river valleys. This breathtaking 4,500-hectare reserve ensures you enjoy a uniquely South African safari experience. Three and half hours from Oudtshoorn or two hours from Cape Town, lies Touws Rivier town. As the first town of the Karoo, coming from the Cape, it is known as the “Gateway to the Karoo” and driving the other direction: “Gateway to the Boland”. This Central Karoo town has one of the richest and most diverse histories and once played a crucial role in the developing railway sector of South Africa. Touws River has seen the humble bushman trek across its vast undulating planes, witnessed the Griekwas briefly find refuge here and can give testimony to the arrival of man and machine.

It is here in Touws Rivier, in a valley between the Langeberg and the Outeniqua Mountains in the Karoo, where you’ll find the 10,000-hectare conservancy Aquila Private Game Reserve & Spa. Our 5-part itinerary brings together some of South Africa’s finest destinations, providing a diverse and enriching experience. It starts in the vibrant Mother City, Cape Town, known for its mountain range, attractions, cultures, cuisines, and natural beauty. Venture into the picturesque South African Winelands, famous for its world-class wines and culinary pleasures, with wine tastings and pairings to look forward to. Embark on a road trip along the world-famous Route 62 towards Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world, located in the heart of the semi-desert Klein Karoo. It’s here, nestled in the foothills of the Swartberg mountain range where you'll discover the breathtaking Cango Cave with its vast chambers. Leave the Klein Karoo and journey over the mountains via the Outeniqua Pass. Be greeted by an abundance of greenery as you enter the Garden Route on your way to the beautiful town of Knysna where you’ll visit the iconic Knysna Heads and enjoy the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. An unforgettable elephant experience awaits, offering a unique opportunity to spend time with these magnificent creatures and learn about the importance of conservation. Finally, it’s safari time! We journey along the Garden Route to a private game reserve for an exhilarating safari experience. Day 1: Cape Town Arrival

Hello, Sanibonani, Molo, Hallo, Thobela, Dumela, Lumela, Abusheni, Sanibona, Avuwani, Salibonani. Welcome to Sunny South Africa!

Zebra Adventures will be waiting for you in the arrival hall at Cape Town International Airport and transfer you to your boutique hotel, Romney Park Luxury Apartments in Greenpoint, where you will spend 4 nights. Enjoy some leisure time next to the pool before checking in and attending the group orientation meeting, which marks the official start of your tour at 1:00 pm. We depart early evening for an unforgettable welcome dinner.

Day 3: Table Mountain & Helicopter Ride

Today promises to be an exciting day as we journey to Table Mountain, officially one of the 7 New Wonders of Nature. After we arrive at the summit via cable car, you can explore the well-marked trails and take in the stunning views of Cape Town from above - a perfect time for reflection. You can send a postcard from the gift shop or grab a snack in the cafe before we descend by cable car. Following our descent, we’ll head over to Signal Hill for more breathtaking views of the city and the mountain you just explored. We will enjoy lunch at the iconic Mojo Market, known for its wide variety of food options that cater to every taste. Before returning to the hotel, we'll take a scenic detour to the stunning Camps Bay for a leisurely stroll and to dip our toes in the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean. We’ll return to the hotel, where you can relax and cool down in the pool before ending the day on a high note with a 12–15-minute helicopter ride along Cape Town’s peninsula. You’ll be in awe of the Atlantic Ocean stretching out to the horizon and might even catch a glimpse of some majestic whales and playful dolphins below. The views of the Cape Town City Bowl, the Peninsula’s pristine white beaches, and the Twelve Apostles Mountain range are simply stunning. After your flight, we’ll head straight to the vibrant V&A Waterfront, Cape Town’s iconic hub of culture, cuisine, and shopping. Wander through the stores, soak in the harbour views, and treat yourself to a delicious dinner at one of the many wonderful waterfront restaurants. It’s the perfect way to cap off a fantastic day.

Day 5: Explore the Winelands

We say goodbye to Cape Town. Whether you are a wine lover or not, the breathtaking scenery of vineyards and mountain ranges in Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek will leave you mesmerised. We’ll begin our wine adventure at Kanonkop Wine Estate, one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine estates. Ranked as the Most Admired Wine Brand in Africa and the Middle East and a four-time recipient of the prestigious International Red Wine Producer of the Year title, Kanonkop has firmly established itself as a global icon. In 2022, the estate added yet another remarkable accolade when it was crowned IWSC Red Wine Producer of the Year. With an extraordinary list of achievements too extensive to mention, you are in for a truly memorable experience. B Created as a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault (known as Hermitage in the early 20th century), Pinotage is uniquely South African, a homegrown varietal developed in South Africa that has become the country’s signature red grape and a true expression of its winemaking heritage. Bold and medium-bodied, it is celebrated for its expressive profile of dark fruits, earthy undertones, distinctive smoky notes, and hints of sweet spice on the finish. Whether this is your first encounter with Pinotage or an opportunity to revisit an old favourite, this tasting promises a distinctive wine experience at one of the country’s most iconic estates. Adding to the occasion, this is the height of the harvest season in the Winelands, a vibrant and captivating time when the vineyards are alive with activity and the atmosphere is filled with the excitement and energy of the annual grape harvest. Our next stop is Babylonstoren, one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms, nestled in the scenic Franschhoek wine valley. Renowned for its beautifully curated gardens, Babylonstoren’s fruit and vegetable garden is a vibrant display of diversity and natural beauty, creating a peaceful atmosphere and a true sense of well-being. During your visit, you will have time to explore the estate at your own pace and enjoy its many attractions. Stroll through the grounds, stop by the coffee roaster and ice-cream parlour, and discover the fascinating wine museum and ever-popular perfumery, a guest favourite and highlight of many tours. Before departing, take time to visit the bakery or deli, perfect for enjoying a light lunch and sampling more of what this remarkable estate has to offer. Step back in time, as you savour L’Ormarins Cap Classique at Anthonij Rupert Wines in the estate’s historic Manor House, furnished in mid-nineteenth-century Cape Dutch style. Next, we head to Boschendal’s Retreat Cottages, just 3.5 km from the Werf and nestled beneath the majestic Simonsberg mountain, where we’ll spend the next two nights. Boschendal was named “The Most Beautiful Vineyard in the World” by Condé Nast Traveller in 2020. As one of South Africa’s oldest farms, dating back to 1685, Boschendal is renowned for its sustainably grown produce. After checking in, take in the breathtaking views, embrace the sense of tranquillity that surrounds you, and pause to relax in the natural pool, a serene spot where time seems to stand still. As evening approaches, we enjoy a casual dinner at the Retreat Restaurant, conveniently situated on the premises and framed by the dramatic mountain backdrop, creating the perfect setting for a peaceful night in the Winelands.

Day 7: Road Trip: Route 62 to Oudshoorn

We leave the beautiful Winelands behind as we start our road trip and journey toward the iconic Garden Route. We’ll travel through the scenic Breede River Valley, tracing the path of Route 62, the world’s longest wine route and a treasure trove of hidden gems. As we wind through the mountains, you’ll notice the changing landscape and vegetation as we approach the semi-desert terrain of the Klein Karoo. Route 62, often compared to America’s Route 66, has earned its reputation as the world’s top road trip destination, according to CNN Travel, making it the perfect gateway to the next chapter of our adventure. Adding a touch of charm, we’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of Route 62’s iconic vintage diners located in Barrydale. Our accommodation is situated just outside Oudtshoorn. Surrounded by olive trees, fruit orchards, and sweeping mountain views, it offers a truly tranquil escape. The clarity of the sky above Oudtshoorn is one of the best places in the world for stargazing. A night sky like you have never seen before!

Day 9: Knysna & Elephant Experience

Wake up to the refreshing scent of the sea and the gentle calls of seagulls as a new day begins on Thesen Island. Today is all about slowing down and embracing the charm of this coastal paradise. Spend the morning exploring the boutique shops scattered across the island, where you’ll find unique treasures and local crafts. If you’re looking for adventure, explore Thesen Island's waterways by kayak, rent a paddle boat, or take in the beauty of the island by renting a bicycle. If relaxation is your goal, simply bask in the sun on the nearby beach and soak up the tranquil atmosphere. With so many options to choose from, Thesen Island is brimming with discovery, leisure, and unforgettable moments. Following a leisurely morning, return to the hotel in the mid-afternoon before departing for an unforgettable experience. Knysna Elephant Park awaits, just a short 25-minute drive from Thesen Island. Here, you’ll have the chance to engage with a remarkable herd of five African elephants, the country’s largest domesticated matriarchal group. Feed and stroll among these majestic African giants, while learning about the significance of conservation. This awe-inspiring encounter is sure to leave an indelible mark on your life! Day 11: Safari & Spa

Today is all about pure relaxation and adventure. You’re free to choose how your day unfolds: begin with an early morning game drive to catch the wildlife at its most active, opt for a leisurely afternoon safari, or treat yourself to both. Throughout the day, the Ayana Spa team will pamper you with a complimentary treatment courtesy of Zebra Adventures, a moment to unwind and recharge. Afterwards, bask in the warmth of the African sun as you lounge beside one of the lodge's serene pools and enjoy a delicious poolside lunch in serene surroundings. As the afternoon rolls in, you can join another game drive or simply relax with a sunset cocktail at the bar or boma, soaking in the breathtaking views and the soothing sounds of the wilderness. Day 13: Time to say “Hamba Kahle”

See the African sunrise one last time on your early morning private game drive before breakfast. Suitcases packed and ready to make our way to Cape Town International Airport, where we will say our final goodbyes until we meet again. Our scheduled arrival time at The Hyde Hotel CPT will be between 4:30 – 5:30 pm.

Day 2: The Heart & Soul of the Mother City

Today is all about immersing yourself in the rich culture of South Africa and her Mother City. Begin your day surrounded by the extraordinary beauty of Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, where few gardens in the world can rival its sheer grandeur, set dramatically against the slopes of Table Mountain. Wander through beautifully curated landscapes before experiencing the iconic 130-metre Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway, affectionately known as “The Boomslang” (tree snake), which rises 12 metres above the ground and invites you to walk through and above the treetops while enjoying spectacular views of the gardens and surrounding mountains. From here, we take a drive-by city tour of historic landmarks and significant sites, including the Grand Parade, the Castle of Good Hope and St George’s Cathedral. As you stroll through the Company’s Garden, dating back to 1652, you’ll be surrounded by the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the city while gaining an introduction to where and how Cape Town began. Hear stories from the past and discover how this remarkable city continues to shape a promising future for South Africa’s Rainbow Nation. We head to the vibrant Time Out Market for a lively lunch experience featuring some of Cape Town’s best chefs and local food concepts under one roof, before stepping next door to The Watershed, South Africa’s leading contemporary craft and design destination. Here, local artisans showcase unique fashion, art, handcrafted pieces and distinctly African creations. We’ll also make a brief stop at Greenmarket Square, a historic gem in the heart of the city. This lively market is filled with stalls showcasing African crafts, handmade jewellery, distinctive clothing and charming keepsakes perfect for taking a piece of South Africa home with you. Discover the soul of the Mother City as you wander through the colourful Bo-Kaap and its charming cobbled streets, while learning about the rich history and culture of the Cape Malay community, often regarded as the heartbeat of the Cape. Immerse yourself in the rich flavours of Cape Malay cuisine, a vibrant culinary tradition deeply woven into Cape Town’s heritage and celebrated for its fragrant spices, flavourful masalas and unique blend of cultural influences. Day 4: Cape Peninsula, Penguins & Cultural Dinner

Explore the Cape Peninsula on a scenic drive along the Atlantic coast, a fitting start to the day with sweeping ocean views and fresh sea air. The journey continues along the iconic Chapman’s Peak Drive, renowned for its 114 bends, dramatic rock formations, and breathtaking coastal vistas. We arrive in Simon’s Town, a charming naval village on False Bay known for its historic harbour and striking scenery, where we visit the famous African penguin colony in its natural habitat, an encounter with these captivating creatures is sure to steal your heart. A leisurely walk follows to a nearby hidden beach, with the opportunity, conditions permitting, to swim in the warmer waters of False Bay alongside these remarkable animals. A quick browse through the African stalls before a light seafood lunch at Boulders Beach. A short drive brings us to Kalk Bay, recognised by Forbes as one of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods, where art nouveau charm, characterful streets, and a lively coastal atmosphere provide a refreshing contrast to the city. After exploring this coastal gem, we return to the hotel to relax and pack ahead of tomorrow morning’s departure to the Winelands. Day 6: Cultural Baking Experience in the Winelands

Wake up to breathtaking panoramic views of the Drakenstein Mountains and vineyards stretching across the valley. This morning, we step back in time as we continue our journey of discovering South Africa’s rich cultural heritage with a visit to a beautifully restored working farm that captures the spirit and traditions of a bygone era. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be immersed in an authentic cultural experience that invites you to slow down and appreciate life at a more grounded pace. The comforting aroma of freshly baked bread drifting from the kitchen is your first welcome to a world where farm life in the late 19th century depended on ingenuity, craftsmanship, and self-sufficiency. Our experience begins at the meticulously restored Farmhouse and charming Gardener’s Cottage, offering a fascinating glimpse into everyday life before the turn of the 20th century. Throughout the morning, you’ll roll up your sleeves and take part in a variety of hands-on traditional activities that honour the legacy of artisan farming. Learn about the age-old tradition of churning fresh farm milk into butter while collecting fresh milk from the farm’s Ayrshire cows, Blommetjie and Bella. The journey continues as we visit the Fowl House to collect fresh eggs from the Naked Neck hens before making our way to the working water-driven hydraulic mill, an exact replica of a historic grain mill where flour is freshly milled for all baking on the farm. Along the way, we’ll pass the blacksmith and carpenters hard at work in their traditional workshops, preserving the spirit of old-world craftsmanship. Using the fresh farm ingredients collected throughout the morning, we then gather in the Old Stables kitchen, where, under the guidance of a master baker, you’ll experience the art of making traditional South African koeksisters, a beloved local delicacy often enjoyed with coffee and tea or served as dessert. After a morning immersed in history, culture, and craftsmanship, a beautiful lunch awaits at the Old Stables Restaurant, featuring fresh seasonal produce and wholesome dishes served from the harvest table. Before departing, be sure to make a brief stop at the Jonkershuis Farm Shop for beautifully crafted keepsakes and local treats and perhaps relive a cherished childhood memory with a turn on the swing suspended beneath the old oak trees. After lunch, we make our way to Paarl, part of the renowned Winelands triangle, where we visit Fairview Wine Estate. The estate is celebrated for its award-winning wines and artisanal cheeses made from both goat’s and cow’s milk, with expertly curated pairings that highlight the richness and distinctive character of both collections. Following a delightful cheese and wine pairing, we return to Boschendal Wine Estate, where the remainder of the afternoon is yours to enjoy at a leisurely pace. You may choose to browse the estate’s charming shops or wander through Boschendal’s gardens. A light dinner will be pre-ordered from the Farm Shop and enjoyed together around the boma, soaking up the atmosphere, sharing stories, and enjoying good company on our final evening in the Winelands.

Day 8: Ostriches, Cango Caves & the Garden Route

Wake up to the soothing sounds of nature, a breathtaking sunrise, and sweeping views of the Swartberg Mountains and Schoemanshoek Valley as you enjoy breakfast. No visit to Oudtshoorn is complete without a stop at an ostrich farm, these remarkable flightless birds are truly fascinating. You'll even have the chance to test the strength of an ostrich egg and uncover its unique history. Our journey continues along the dramatic Swartberg Mountain Pass, offering breathtaking views as we make our way to the renowned Cango Caves, nestled in the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains. This vast and ancient limestone cave system, formed over millions of years, features an extraordinary network of tunnels and chambers. A true natural wonder, the Cango Caves are among South Africa’s most captivating geological attractions, offering a fascinating glimpse into the Earth’s distant past. Leaving Oudtshoorn and the Little Karoo behind, we begin our ascent along the striking Outeniqua Pass, renowned for its sweeping scenic views. The dry, rugged terrain gradually transforms into a lush landscape of dense forests and vibrant greenery, welcoming us into the Garden Route. On the other side of the mountains, the journey leads through George, renowned as a golfer’s paradise along the lush Garden Route coastline, before continuing toward the charming town of Knysna. Knysna is known for its stunning lagoon and the famous Knysna Heads. Nestled in a picturesque setting, Knysna boasts verdant indigenous forests, serene lakes, and captivating beaches. The striking geological formation known as the Knysna Heads, with its vibrant cliffs, stands majestically at the mouth of the lagoon, enhancing the town’s natural allure. On Thesen Island, where we’ll be staying, you’ll be welcomed by the warm embrace of craft shops, flea markets, and inviting cafés, all exuding the charm and hospitality of a close-knit community. You’ll quickly understand why Knysna is often referred to as the Garden of Eden, where nature’s beauty and small-town charisma blend harmoniously. As the Knysna Heads fade into the distance, we begin the final leg of our journey, a thrilling safari adventure! We make our way to the Safari Lodge, your home for the next three unforgettable nights. Upon arrival, prepare for your first sunset game drive, a chance to encounter South Africa’s incredible wildlife up close. Expect close encounters with eland, elephants, gemsbok, rhinos, cheetahs, ostriches, lions, and Cape buffalo. Sightings of the elusive Cape Mountain leopard are extremely rare, but who knows, we might just get lucky. You’ll also spot giraffes, zebras, black wildebeest, and a dazzling array of antelope species roaming freely across the landscape. Guided by an experienced and knowledgeable game ranger, you'll not only spot these majestic animals but also gain insight into the vital importance of conservation. The itinerary mentioned above serves as a preliminary plan. Your final itinerary will be sent to you three months before your tour. You will receive a basic medical form to complete roughly four months before your arrival in SA. If you have received any medical treatment or sustained any injuries within six months before you arrive in South Africa, we require a ‘fit to fly’ letter from your GP. This is to help you while in South Africa, as we do not want you or any of your group members to miss out on any of our exciting activities and to keep up with a jam-packed itinerary. We encourage a moderate fitness level. We have a daily itinerary with pre-booked excursions, and we encourage everyone to participate on a daily basis.
